About CEESI

CEESI began operation in 1951 as the Engineering Experiment Station - a program of the College of Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder for research, development, and testing of small rockets for the Naval Ordinance Test Station at China Lake, California. In the 50s, when turbine-type meters came into use by the military, the station became the sole location for testing these meters. Eventually, the university's interest waned, and in 1966, with the assistance of Professor Tom Arnberg of the Mechanical Engineering Department, the non-profit organization separated from the university and moved to the present site - a surplus Atlas missile site near Nunn, Colorado. The name was changed to Colorado Engineering Experiment Station, Inc. The corporation retained its non-profit status until 1986 when Walt Seidl and Steve Caldwell purchased the facility. It has operated as an independent commercial calibration facility since then.

CEESI has assisted in the development of several meter types including turbine flowmeters and V-CONE testing with wet gas. Performance evaluation of electronic flow measurement systems under simulated field conditions has been conducted for several companies, and CEESI has participated in the development of international orifice meter standards. Applied research includes control valve noise investigations, flow conditioner performance, super critical CO2 research, and oil effect studies on orifice measurement.

CEESI's participation in measurement comparison programs with other US calibration labs as well as labs in Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Norway, Australia, Russia, China, and the Netherlands provides a mechanism for maintaining the highest level of quality for calibration services. CEESI also participates in flow measurement standards committees organized by the ASME, AGA, API, and GRI.

CEESI's engineering staff (read their resumes) are currently working on papers for several standards committees, as well as several large engineering projects (read sampling of case studies).
